About the Vocal Score of The Mikado by W. S. Gilbert & Arthur Sullivan sheet music book

Description

Vocal Score for the very popular The Mikado opera by Arthur Sullivan and W. S. Gilbert. This is the ninth of their fourteen operatic collaborations.

The Mikado is a satire of late 19th century British institutions, society and politics. By setting the opera in a fantasy Japan, an exotic locale far away from contemporary Britain, Gilbert was able to satirise British politics more freely and soften the impact of his criticisms of British social institutions.

This vocal score is a vintage edition published circa 1934 according to the handwritten signature.

Published by Chappel and Co, c.1934. Hardback.
